WOOD
To say what wood means to Wood Studio would be almost
unexplainable. Forests, trees, and wood have fascinated
each of us in different ways for all of out lives.
They are our lifeblood and our inspiration. Wood
is more than the material with which we work; it
is a piece of art in itself. It is our goal to capture
and magnify the beauty and natural character of
the piece of wood in every piece of furniture we
build. Simply put we are wood geeks that are thankful
for, and try to be useful with every scrap we buy,
saw, or salvage. This page is meant to provide the
customer with a quick reference to the look and
color of several types of wood, as well as describe
what kind of wood we use.
We prefer to work with wood we know. We like to
use local wood and we like to get that wood ourselves.
We salvage some wood from buildings, such as old
heart pine. But mainly, we rescue hardwoods from
the dreaded fate of the landfill or the burn pile.
Storm damaged timber and trees being removed from
residential areas are our primary sources of wood.
We remove the trees from the site, haul ‘em,
saw ‘em, stack ‘em, dry ‘em, and
then mill them to transform an ill-fated tree into
a fine furnishing for your home.
At the customer’s request, we are happy to
work with other woods than those featured here.
But, all of our Signature Selections come from native,
local trees, whose history we are a part of and
are a part of us. |
